"Platypus is the brainchild of John Myung. When he told me that Rod Morgenstein was involved, I was very excited! The Dixie Dregs were one of my biggest influences growing up, so to actually get the opportunity to work with Rod is kind of mind boggling to me!! I probably appeared to be star struck, but I don't care because I was!! The Platypus sessions started at Rod's house in Northport, New York. It was then that I first met Ty Tabor. I was familiar with King's X, but I didn't really know his sound.

We wrote What About The Merch? within 20 minutes of meeting each other! Ty's vibrato and fluid style reminded me of David Gilmour. After a week of intense writing at Rod's house, we moved up to Millbrook Sudios in upstate New York to record the album. We wrote and recorded When Pus Comes to Shove in 14 days!! Ty finished the vocals and mixed the album at his house in Texas."
