The Dear Hunter
September 10, 2011 12:50:00 AM UTC Post #1

So anybody who knows me knows that these guys are pretty much my favorite band. Anybody who doesn't, well... you know now!

I think they'll have a lot of appeal to most DT fans. They can be heavy and proggy and are filled with all kinds of musical deliciousness for you to sink your ears into. Fun fact: Their first full-length album ("Act II: The Meaning Of, & All Things Regarding, Ms. Leading") made Mike Portnoy's list of top 10 albums of 2007.

Their latest release ("The Color Spectrum") is a 9-EP set based on the 7 colors of the rainbow plus Black and White. Seriously... how much more prog can you get?!

Here's something to start you off if you're new:

Act II is a masterpiece, I honestly have no idea how The Dear Hunter can top that.

Probably one of the best performances I've ever seen, I hope to God they come to England soon!

He jelly. U mad.

I jelly too, being in England and all. That said, I kinda fell out of love with them after Act I. Act II was overlong for my tastes, and just too all over the place. Containts some of their best and worst, imo.

I see your TCS vinyl pic and raise you a post-show pic with the entire band (I'm top row, second from left. i.e., The guy with his arm around Nick C.)

It's turtles all the way down.

i guess you win because i've never seen them live :(

that day will come soon enough

Whereabouts do you live? They're about to start another tour in a few weeks. You have to see them live if you can... they put on a fantastic show, and the entire band is extremely accessible and friendly. They still work the merch stands themselves and pretty much always hang out with fans after the show. They're starting to really grow in popularity though, so I don't know how much longer those days will last. (I think they sold out like 6 or 7 consecutive shows on their last tour)

It's turtles all the way down.
