In the Presence of Enemies, pt. 2 Appreciation Thread

Posts: 7 Member #: 173,578 Joined: 09/09/2011	This just manages to be my penultimate Dream Theater song, maybe even the all-time favorite on days when "Finally Free" isn't quite doing the trick. I know that it's cheesy and it's melodramatic, but it's got such an enthralling vibe to it that makes me feel queasy and crazy and batshit all at once. I know that a lot of people end up finding it lost on them. What do you think?

Posts: 4 Member #: 173,821 Joined: 09/10/2011	In The Presence Of Enemies as a whole is one of the best DT songs (it was the one I'd have considered their best when I was first getting into them), and Part 2 makes up the bulk of it and if Part 2 was a song in itself, it'd still be really high. Heretic / Slaughter Of The Damned are the meat and bones of the song in my opinion, even though they are bookended by the themes from Part 1 and their reprisal at the end. People complain about the Reckoning, and while it's not my favourite part of the song or not one I'd pick as my favourite DT instrumental, I really don't see anything wrong with it, at all. I think it's good.
