Hey guys and gals, I'm late to the party but better late than never right? My story is such: i purchased tickets for the Austin G3 tour in 2000 I think it was? I'm a diehard Satch and Vai fan, but I hadn't heard of one John Petrucci, so I researched him to familiarize myself before the show. I learned of his band and bought the current album at the time, which turned out to be Scenes. Wow I was blown away! By the time I saw them the year after witj Satriani and King's X I had bought every album and they had quickly become my favorite band ever. To this day I believe they are the best band in history. I connected very deeply and emotionally with all their music, and may be one of the only fans who have intensely enjoyed every album they've created. I saw them on the Chaos on Tour show and was so proud they had gotten so big as headliners. I thought Systematic Chaos and Black Clouds were both top form masterpieces (count of tuscany is my fav song by them) and it really felt like they had all the momentum in the world. I met the love of my life late 2010 and was excited to get her into the music that I hold so dear. Then disaster struck. When I first heard of Mike leaving, it hit me like a break up almost. I felt empty and depressed with a feeling of dispair for the future. My immediate thoughts were 'can they carry on?' 'how could they ever feel or be the same?' 'maybe they will have to change names and be some shadow of DT' and biggest 'Oh god I will never see them all live again' |

I closely followed them, closer than i ever had. I researched and read the book 'Lifting Shadows' and felt like i really got to know them a little better. I'm 34 but its still refreshing to be reminded that my idols are just people with flaws and conflicts too. Anyway to cut to the chase, i watched the Spirit documentary and got ADTOE and basically i think its the best or second best album ever! Its so obvious how fresh it feels and how the creative process is more open to everyone in the band. I have nothing but love and respect for Portnoy, he will always be remembered for what he's done and the part he has in my heart, but the new DT sounds so sharp and fresh. |

I have VIP passes for the Oct 26th concert in Austin for my lady and I and I've never been more excited i my life! I've kept up with reviews and comments on facebook and am so excited to hear how happy the guys are on stage, how amazing the production is, how they're playing at the top of their game, how great James is singing (although, I'm also one of the fans that have always loved how James sings, f the haters). Really looking forward to it! |

Haha sorry, on my iphone at work and the mobile web version doesn't support spellcheck so I had to go back over and over and figured breaking it up would be easier than a giant post. I'll definitely make myself at home, I've never been a part of any kind of DT forums before.. Just been a rabid lifechanged fan from hiding hehe |
